Abstract

The main purpose of this article is to investigate the knowledge gaps in the development of the country's oil and gas industry. Knowledge gaps have, firstly, led to inefficient extraction of oil reserves and resources, and secondly, incomplete use of the value chain of oil and petrochemical products and derivatives. In other words, on one hand, the coefficient of extraction of oil reserves is low and on the other hand, the lack of development of complementary and downstream petrochemical industries has caused the sale of crude or sales of basic products, as the largest share in foreign exchange earnings. In this situation, in order to earn more income, the approach of increasing the volume of export products has to be considered inevitably, and therefore the unit value of the volume of oil and petrochemical export products in Iran is at a low level. At the beginning of the article, the basics and concepts of knowledge-based are briefly explained. Then the amount of Iran's oil and gas reserves is reviewed and Iran's position in terms of these resources in the world is shown. Iran's superior position can be considered as a trump card in economic and political interactions and relations in the region and at the international level. And then, the use of oil and gas in different sectors is examined. Finally, suggestions for creating added value by increasing harvests and completing the value chain of petroleum products and petrochemical products are presented through using the principles of knowledge-based economy
